For many Brits, a morning coffee is an essential part of the daily routine. But with the cost of eating and drinking out continuing to put pressure on household budgets, the price of a cappuccino can vary significantly depending on where you live.

To uncover where coffee drinkers can get the best value, the experts at Fast Loan UK analysed the average cost of a cappuccino in cities and towns across the UK.

The findings reveal major regional differences, with the cheapest cappuccino costing more than £2 less than the most expensive location included in the research.

The places with the cheapest cappuccinos in the UK

Blackpool has been crowned the cheapest place in the UK to buy a cappuccino, with the average cup costing just £2.70.

The popular Lancashire seaside town is followed by Cardiff, where a cappuccino costs £2.88 on average. Perth takes third place at £2.98, making it the most affordable location in Scotland for coffee drinkers.

England dominates the overall rankings, accounting for six of the 10 cheapest locations. However, all four UK nations are represented, with Cardiff, Perth and Enniskillen each offering some of the most affordable cappuccinos in their respective countries.

At the other end of the scale, London is the most expensive location in the dataset, with an average cappuccino costing £4.85. This means coffee drinkers in the capital pay £2.15 more per cup than those in Blackpool, an increase of almost 80%.

The places with the cheapest cappuccinos in Wales

Cardiff is the cheapest city in Wales for a cappuccino, with an average price of £2.88.

Despite being the Welsh capital and largest city, Cardiff offers coffee at a lower average price than every other Welsh location included in the research.

Swansea takes second place at £3.24, while Merthyr Tydfil rounds out the top three at £3.41.

The 10 places with the cheapest cappuccinos in England

Blackpool takes the top spot in England, with an average cappuccino price of £2.70.

The northern town is joined by several other affordable locations across the Midlands and North of England, including Bury, Coventry, Dudley and Hull.

While the North and Midlands dominate the lower end of the rankings, Plymouth is the second-cheapest location in England, showing that affordable coffee can also be found in the South West.

London is the most expensive English city in the ranking, at £4.85 per cappuccino. Oxford follows at £4.34, while Nottingham and Brighton and Hove both average £3.89.

The places with the cheapest cappuccinos in Scotland

Perth is the most affordable place in Scotland for a cappuccino, with the average cup costing £2.98.

Kilmarnock follows at £3.25, while Ayr takes third place at £3.29.

Commenting on the findings, Joe Brunt, Consumer Finance Expert at Fast Loan UK, said:

“For many people, buying a coffee is a small but regular expense that can quickly add up over the course of a month. Our research shows that the price of a cappuccino varies considerably depending on where you live, with coffee drinkers in some parts of the UK paying almost twice as much as those in the most affordable locations.

“While the difference between one cup and another may appear relatively small, it becomes more significant for people who buy coffee several times a week. Someone purchasing a cappuccino every working day could spend more than £500 extra a year in London compared with Blackpool.

“The findings are a useful reminder that everyday spending habits can have a meaningful impact on household budgets. For those looking to reduce regular costs without giving up their coffee routine, checking local prices, using loyalty schemes or making some drinks at home could help keep spending under control.”
