EXPERT COMMENT: CONFUSED.COM: Drink Driving Offences reach 750 per week

Today, it was reported that in 2021 so far, more than 750 drivers a week have been banned from the roads for drink driving and this was even before pubs and restaurants began to open their doors. Alex Kindred, car insurance expert at Confused.com, comments:

“At last, we’re welcome back at pubs and restaurants! Many of us will be planning to enjoy our favourite tipple at our local, but unfortunately even one alcoholic drink can be enough to put us over the limit.

“The only safe option is not to drink if you plan to drive, and if you’re driving the next day, always make sure you’re leaving plenty of time for the alcohol to leave your system.

“Plus, drivers could be at risk of invalidating their insurance policies, as many insurers now have a clause which allows them to reserve the right to refuse to pay out in the event of an accident that occurs whilst the driver is under the influence of drink or drugs. We’ve created a guide to provide useful information on the legal limits and the consequences of drink driving on insurance and individuals caught.”
