A group of Pembrokeshire residents have been learning about the County’s wealth of historic documents.
Members of Dinas Age Concern visited Pembrokeshire County Council’s Archives and Local Studies centre recently.
Archives and Local Studies assistant Helen Evans gave them an introductory talk about the importance of the Archives and the work of the service.
Afterwards the group went behind the scenes to see how items are cared for and view historic maps, archives and books featuring the Dinas and Fishguard area.
Based at the Pembrokeshire Archives building in Prendergast, the Pembrokeshire Archives and Local Studies centre holds written, mapped and photographed items of cultural and historical importance to Pembrokeshire along with an extensive Local Studies collection of books and other published items.
As well as housing the County’s Archive – comprising thousands of documents spanning the centuries – it also provides on-site facilities for members of the public and historians to undertake research.
Groups as well as individual researchers are welcome to visit by prior arrangement.
Details of the opening hours, location, readers’ tickets, scale of charges and other information can be found on the web-site: www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/archives.
