| Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Catering Services recently welcomed a special presentation on Natasha’s Law, delivered by Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE, mother of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse and founder of the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation. The event, held at Ty Penallta Chambers, brought together school cooks, Meals Direct staff, council officers, and key stakeholders to learn more about food allergies, allergen management, and the importance of safe food practices. The presentation was supported by Castell Howell and formed part of Caerphilly Catering’s ongoing commitment to protecting pupils and customers with food allergies. Attendees heard the moving story of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who tragically lost her life in 2016 after suffering a severe allergic reaction. Natasha’s death highlighted shortcomings in food allergen labelling regulations and ultimately led to the introduction of Natasha’s Law, which strengthened requirements for full ingredient and allergen labelling on pre-packed foods made on the premises where they are sold. Cllr Amanda McConnell, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, said “We were honoured to welcome Tanya Ednan-Laperouse to speak with our catering teams and guests. Her powerful presentation highlighted why allergen awareness and food safety must remain at the forefront of everything we do. The session has strengthened our commitment to ensuring that every meal we provide is safe and that staff fully understand their role in protecting children and customers with food allergies.” Caerphilly Catering serves thousands of meals each day across schools throughout the county borough and continues to invest in staff training, food safety, and allergen management to ensure the highest standards of care. The organisation remains committed to working closely with schools, families, and partners to support the safety and wellbeing of all pupils, particularly those with medically diagnosed food allergies. The event was warmly received by attendees and served as an important reminder that effective allergen management helps create safer dining environments for everyone. |
