Environment Agency warns of heavy rain across Wales
Environment Agency Wales is advising people to be prepared as forecasters are predicting heavy spells of rain across the country from later this afternoon and into the weekend. A band of locally heavy rain is expected over western and north-western parts of Wales later this afternoon and into the evening. From tomorrow morning another band of heavy, slow moving showers will affect most parts of Wales with around 20-30mm of rainfall expected in a short period of time.
This could lead to excess surface water on roads and flooding of drains and small streams. The Agency does not expect rivers to rise significantly, but will continue to monitor the situation closely over the weekend. People are urged to take extra care as, driving conditions may be hazardous.
A spokesperson for Environment Agency Wales said:
“The recent weather has meant that the ground is not too saturated and our rivers are within their normal levels for the time of year.
“However, we are expecting some particularly heavy showers which could cause disruption. Those travelling to events this weekend such as the Eisteddfod in the Vale of Glamorgan and the Olympic football at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff should allow extra time for travel and to take care on the roads”.
People should keep an eye on the forecast, and listen to local news bulletins for details of any disruption in their area.
