Thought for the week (we 16th December 2012)

Who would have thought that a so called prank by two Australian radio presenters would have ended in such sadness?

What seemed to them at the time a major coupe for their radio station when they imitated the voice of the Queen has led to the tragic death of the nurse who was taken in by their call.

Jacintha Saldnha was a much respected nurse, a wife and mother whose family and colleagues are in now deep sadness and sorrow at her loss

None of us, of course, can fully foresee the consequences of our actions. There may have been occasions when we acted hastily and then wish we had our time back again.

It’s the same when problems and concerns suddenly come our way and again with hindsight we wished we had acted differently. It’s at such times we need to take time, to think through where our response may lead us and seek the help of those we trust the most.

‘A problem shared is a problem halved’ is no empty cliché those who come alongside and give of their advice and help are truly precious at such times. The gift of prayer is also of great value.

In and through such times God invites us reach out to him and in such faith to find peace and assurance. The Bible encourages us to ‘Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all our ways to acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths’ – Help and strength for us all from God’s eternal love.
