Keith Davies AM has spoken of the excellent work done by the Safer Llanelli Initiative. Recently launched, it puts partnership working at its core, providing a sustained response and concentrating resources in key areas at key times.

Its Strategic Plan has five priorities to examine and build on current work – tackling volume crime, violent crime, anti-social behaviour, substance misuse and promoting partnership working.

Aimed to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Llanelli, Dyfed-Powys Police are seeking to reduce re-offending and improve public confidence and concern.

Keith Davies AM said:

“I am delighted that the Minister agrees with me that this is evidence of best practice and a great example of the positive and proactive work being undertaken to keep Llanelli’s streets safe.”

“5 PCSO’s are based in Llanelli, funded by the Labour Welsh Government. They all have a good working relationship with the public and work on specific initiatives such as burglary prevention and offering face-to-face support.”

The Minister for Local Government and Communities, Carl Sargeant AM, said:

“Despite the level of cuts to the policing budgets from the UK Government, I agree with the Member in terms of the work that Dyfed-Powys Police is delivering in Llanelli, with the support of the Welsh Government-funded community support officers.”

Superintendent Pam Kelly, Carmarthenshire Divisional Commander, said:

“It is encouraging and gratifying to all concerned with the Safer Llanelli Initiative that it is being recognised as Best Practice by our political leaders,”

“The support of our leaders is vital in our continuing fight against crime. That, combined with the contribution made by our Police Community Support Officers together with regular officers and the support of the community of Llanelli has enabled us to be as successful as we have been so far.”

“It is important that the initiative continues with the same amount of energy, as the positive impact that this initiative has on the community of Llanelli speaks for itself.”
