Man fined after dumping black bag at recycling site

A MAN has been fined £75 for dumping a black bag at the recycling banks in Abergwili Museum.

He was seen pulling up in his car, then removing a black bag from the boot and dumping it next to the litter bin and under the ‘No fly-tipping’ sign.

He was issued with a fixed penalty notice by council environmental enforcement officers. Failure to pay could result in court prosecution and a fine of up to £2,500.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “It is unbelievable that this man chose to drive to the recycling banks to dump his black bag when the household waste recycling centre at Nantycaws is only up the road.“

Unfortunately, fly-tipping is becoming an increasing problem at recycling sites across the county. It is hoped the fine will act as a warning to others and encourage people to be more responsible.

Cllr Jones added: “These sites are important facilities for communities and only glass, paper, cans and textiles should be taken for recycling, but people are dumping all kinds of rubbish. This will not be tolerated and anyone caught will be prosecuted.”
