SWANS star Leon Britton is urging everyone to take time out to nominate an inspirational young person for a High 5 award.
Nominations have now opened for the 2015 High 5 awards which recognise inspirational youngsters who aspire to be the best they can be for themselves or their community.
The midfielder, who is ambassador for the awards, said: “Every year the High 5 awards celebrate the achievements of amazing youngsters whose hard work would otherwise go unrecognised.
“They show how great young people are and how proud we should be of their dedication to making life better for their communities or themselves.
“High 5 is a real chance for anyone in Swansea to tell a child or young person how proud they are of them and enable their story to be an inspiration to others.
“Please go to the website and nominate that youngster and make this year’s awards a massive success.”
Lucy Saunders, Headteacher at Plasmarl Primary School where the awards were launched, urged teachers and families to answer Leon’s call.
She said: “We are delighted to be supporting this wonderful initiative. The High 5 awards are an opportunity to highlight our inspirational youngsters who have made a difference in their communities, often against the odds.”
The High 5 awards are led by Swansea Council, sponsored by Gower College Swansea, and backed by businesses and organisations from across the city.
This year it’s easier than ever to nominate a young person for a High 5 with everything you need online.
Nominees no longer have to qualify for a specific category. All nominators need to do is explain why their choice of nominee should get a High 5, whatever the reason might be. A winner’s final prize will be uniquely designed around the nomination and everyone nominated will be recognised with a certificate.
The High 5 awards are open to any child or young person or group in three age ranges: under 13s, aged 19 or under, or 20 to 25-year-olds.
Judges are looking for examples of children and young people as individuals or in groups who aspire to reach personal goals or improve their community and in doing so are an inspiration to others. They have to be either a resident, educated in or receiving support in Swansea.
Shortlisted nominees will be invited to the celebration awards evening along with their nominator and two guests.
