Phillip Evans, (29) of Llanelli has taken up the challenge of cycling from London to Paris to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society and friend Gareth Thomas (29) is raising money for Children with Cancer.
Phillip who hoped to raise over £1000 by taking part in London to Paris Bike Ride starting on 8th June 2016 has now nearly raised £2000 said:
‘I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because I wanted to raise money for a great charity of which is close to my family and friends hearts as unfortunately members of my family have been affected by Alzheimer’s / Dementia. This cruel illness appears to be affecting more and more families each year and many friends have relatives / friends that have also been affected by Alzheimer’s / Dementia. I also look forward to again be taking part in an “Almost Strictly” Charity event in October 2016, where I will be teaching a non dancer to learn to dance for the very first time and compete for the “Almost Strictly” trophy, of which will be my third year being part of a great charity. It will be a tough challenge but it’s great to know that I will be raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.’
Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said:
‘We are delighted that Phillip is giving his time to support Alzheimer’s Society. 225,000 will develop dementia this year, that’s one every three minutes. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Phillip to help us continue our vital work. Please back Phillip and his friend Gareth in their fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia and Gareth can help his chosen charity.
I am aware that Phillip a Professional Dance Teacher at Dance Kingdom in Llanelli organised a recent Strictly Charity Dancing event fundraising event on Sunday 22nd May 2016, as part of his cycle fundraising for Alzheimer’s. This event was a huge success where an audience of over 200 people cheered on 9 couples who took on the challenge of learning and performing one dance each in just 6 weeks. Each couple danced their hearts out.
Gareth has also raised in excess of £1000 for Children with Cancer added “I am excited to be taking on this amazing challenge of which is Probably going 2 b the toughest 4 days of my life. But worth it if I can help at least 1 child suffering with this dreadful illness.”
