The Great Repeal Bill, unveiled by the UK Government today, sets the UK on the path to becoming an independent, sovereign nation again – according to the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies.

He said it represents a great opportunity for the National Assembly for Wales, as a range of powers are repatriated from Brussels.

Mr Davies said:

“Conservatives in Government are delivering on the will of the people, and the Great Repeal Bill is a vital step on the road to making the United Kingdom an independent, sovereign nation once again.

“From a legislative point of view, it offers great opportunities for the UK and the National Assembly for Wales, because we are witnessing the repatriation of a range of powers which had transferred to Brussels.

“However, the First Minister must now work positively with the UK Government to ensure that we get a deal which works for everyone.

“The shambolic, ‘wrecking ball’ approach taken by his colleagues in Westminster will help no-one, and he must also distance himself from cynical attempts by Leanne Wood to harness support for Welsh independence.

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to chart a positive new course for the United Kingdom and for the people Wales.”
