CARMARTHENSHIRE’S student shopping extravaganza – Student Take Over – returns this September.
Over 1,000 students are expected to join in the event planned for Carmarthen town centre on September 28 from 6pm – 9pm.

Carmarthenshire County council is calling on all businesses to take part in the flagship event when students across the county will be flocking into town ready to grab a bargain.

Shops, cafes and restaurants across Carmarthen town centre will need to open their doors late if they wish to accommodate students who will be expecting to make savings on their shopping and snap up bargains and cut-price products.

The council’s economic development team has teamed up with the University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD), Yr Atom, Carmarthen Town Council and Trinity St David’s Student Union, Merlin’s Walk and St Catherine’s Walk to bring the event back to Carmarthen.

The event celebrates the start of the academic year, and highlights this year will include exclusive discounts, in store activities and promotions, with live music and street entertainers contributing to the party atmosphere.

Last year over 30 businesses took part in the event which saw town centre businesses open their doors late and offer one-night only discounts, exclusively for students.

Council Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “This year’s event is going to be bigger and better, it’s great to see the student event return to Carmarthen.

“I’d like to thank all the businesses that have supported the Student Take Over event so far, and urge those who have not yet signed up to do so.”

“Not only is the event supporting local businesses but it is a fantastic way to encourage new trade and it’s a great opportunity for students to explore Carmarthen town and what it has to offer.”

Businesses who are interested to take part in the event need to contact Alex J Morgan on 01267 242435 AljMorgan@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
