Hays reveals the top ten jobs for 2019

As many workers return to their jobs after a well-earned break between Christmas and New Year, it’s the optimum time for staff to consider their career prospects for 2019. Understanding which employers are recruiting and where the opportunities lie is essential for any job seeker.

 

Over half of the UK workforce (56%) plans to look for a new role next year and over three-quarters (76%) of employers are planning to hire, according to the Hays Salary & Recruiting Trends 2019 guide. The research, by leading recruiting experts Hays, is based on a survey of almost 23,000 respondents and provides a strong indicator that there are opportunities available for anyone looking for a new job this year.  

 

Hays has revealed the top roles that employers are looking for in 2019. The roles that make up the top ten list are commanding above average salary increases as skills shortages mean employers are struggling to find the talent they need. Is your job on the most wanted list?

  2. Data scientists 
  3. Site managers 
  4. Java developers 
  5. Part-qualified accountants 
  6. Full stack developers 
  7. Building surveyors 
  8. Quantity surveyors 
  9. Risk analysts 
  10. Finance managers

 

Simon Winfield, Managing Director of Hays UK & Ireland, comments: “The jobs on this list show that technology roles have not only enjoyed some of the biggest pay rises in 2018, but this shows no sign of slowing down in 2019. The employers we work with just can’t recruit enough technology specialists quickly enough.

 

Accountants are being buoyed by companies’ focus on tightening financial controls and the changes in international financial reporting standards. Construction demand is high due to ongoing investment combined with a lack of skilled migrant workers to boost the workforce.

 

If you aren’t one of the lucky ones on this list, it is worth using the New Year to have a look at your skill set and where you want to take your career. Whilst you might not want to take a pay cut and re-start your career, or you might not have the core skills and qualifications to become a developer or a surveyor, it is worth exploring where your profession is heading and what skills will be needed in 2019 and beyond.”
