Council reports confusion over new tip rules

Carmarthenshire County Council yesterday (Wednesday 3rd April) reported on their Facebook page that ‘There has been some confusion about the changes at our recycling centres’.

The full post reads:

‘There has been some confusion about the changes at our recycling centres and in particular the permit scheme that is being introduced in June.’

‘If you drive a small or medium size van or a single cab compact pick-up you can continue to use the recycling centres between now and June 3 as long as you live in Carmarthenshire (please have a driver’s licence, Council Tax bill or utility bill no older than three months with you) and are disposing of household waste only.

From June 3 you will require a permit, more information on this is available on our website.’

However, the post received a backlash from angry Carmarthenshire residents because from 1st April 2019, the council has been carrying out residency checks.  There’s also new opening times and a ban on commercial vehicles. Further changes will see certain vehicles requiring a permit to use the centres, though that will not start till 3rd June.

Carol Ball wrote that ‘It was like trying to get into the royal mint when I went yesterday. What a waste of money employing security guards to check ID come on CCC get some common sense and encourage people to dispose of waste sensibly.’

Whilst Chris Howells congratulated the council with ‘Well done CCC, confirmed my views. You win the cup for idiotic ideas!’

Ieuan Lewis was more concerned with the cost with ‘Let’s be honest the poster wasn’t exactly clear I had to phone my Self. I’ve now got to put a tow bar on my car because I can’t tow a trailer into the tip with the van but yet I’m allowed to take the van in on its own without permit as it has rear seats and windows (i use a trailer as i don’t want to sleep where i put bin bags) so not only am I spending £10 more a month on yet another council tax raise I’m now spending £200 on another tow bar I wonder how long it will take before your spending more on clearing the fly-tippers mess out not forgetting the 4 blue bags rolls you’ve limited each house old.’
