Shortly after 10.30pm last night emergency services were called to a large fire at a garage on Pentrechwyth Road, Pentrechwyth, Swansea.

Due to the severity of the fire a number of houses in the vicinity had to be evacuated as a precaution and to ensure the safety of local residents.

A number of householders have now been able to return to their homes.

However, several houses remain within the cordon and residents are being accommodated at the Liberty Stadium or with friends and relatives until it is safe for them to return home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and a number of local roads in the immediate vicinity remain closed.

South Wales Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area prior to 10.30pm on Saturday night or who may have witnessed anyone behaving suspiciously in the area around that time or anyone who may have any information which may assist them in this investigation.

South Wales Police thanks local residents for the patience and support while emergency services have been dealing with this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 and quote reference2000353139.
