As today marks another day of industrial action, leading e-bike engineers, Swytch Technology unveil the country’s most bike-friendly cities

CEO and Co-Founder of Swytch Technology, Oliver Montague, is available to comment on how cycling has increased in the wake of train strikes

1. London

It comes as no surprise that the capital comes in as the top contender for one of the UK’s most bike-friendly cities. Transport for London and the Mayor of London are on a mission to transform the city into a cycling haven through its cycle superhighways, quietways and other outstanding bike paths around the city.

As one of the most congested cities in the country, residents and visitors are opting for pedals over pollution. It is faster and more enjoyable to travel by bike compared to private cars and public transport.

2. Cambridge

The university city is a haven for cyclist – with its flat terrain, relatively dry weather and investment in infrastructure, it comes in as an ideal sport for commuters and leisure cyclists alike.

The government’s cycling and walking data shows 40.3% of people in Cambridge cycle more than 3x per week – more than any other city in the UK!

3. Bristol

Bristol is booming when it comes to bikes, being home to one of the most well-known and used bike paths in the UK: the Bristol and Bath Railway path.

Considered one of the greenest cities in the UK, Bristol won the European Green City Award back in 2015 and the accolade of England’s first cycling city in 2008.

4. Glasgow

Being the largest city in Scotland, Glaswegians have been adapting how they navigate their city over the years. A city teeming with culture, hosting thousands of gigs, festivals and tournaments every year – including the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and the upcoming UCI Cycling World Championships in 2023.

Glasgow has over 300km of cycle ways and a bike hire scheme. One can explore the rivers, canals and historic monuments of Scotland’s second city very easily by bike.

5. Edinburgh

The capital of Scotland has earned its place as one of the best places in the UK to ride a bike, brimming with traffic-free cycle paths. Arthur’s Seat, in the city centre is a great park to ride through, often abuzz with cyclists throughout the day. The many art galleries, museums and restaurants in Edinburgh are best visited by bike.

The city even hosts the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling.

The new way to cycle: Who are Swytch?

The new Swytch Kit takes you further and faster by converting any regular bicycle into a state-of-the-art e-bike. The conversion kit features a world-first pocket-sized battery (the “Power Pack”) which is similar in size to a large smartphone, weighs just 700g, recharges in just one hour from your mains power socket, and provides 10 miles range. Increasing the range is as easy as clicking off one battery, and connecting another, or upgrading to the larger battery option available with 20 miles range, and weighing 1.1kg.

Where can I buy one?

Following the launch of Swytch’s new electric bike conversion kit, the company has been inundated with thousands of orders, and predicts the successful launch of this new product has grown the size of the e-bike markets in the USA and UK by 1.6% and 5% respectively, in just one month. As a result of this demand, the launch has now closed but you can sign up here to get 50% off for pre-order access.

About Swytch

Swytch was founded by engineers Oliver Montague and Dmitro Khroma in 2017 in response to an obvious gap in the market for a sustainable transport solution. The idea first developed when Oliver was cycling to his workplace to meet with his boss. Despite travelling similar distances, Oliver had broken into a sweat whereas his boss arrived impeccably dressed, simply because he was on an eBike.

Oliver now plays a pivotal role as head of the company as CEO and Dmitro leads a world-class London-based engineering team as CTO. Already saving 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from previous models, Swytch believes that transport shouldn’t cost the Earth – so they’ve made it their mission to make electric transport accessible to everybody.
