Gimme, Gimme, Gimme a breakdown of Sam, Bill and Harry’s travel costs in 2025
- New research has found how much it would cost to recreate Sam, Bill and Harry’s trips to Sophie’s wedding in Mamma Mia
- The analysis comes after travel experts at My Budget Break discovered a surge in demand for a ‘Mamma Mia holiday’ after Google searches increased by 124%
- Sam’s trip would cost 59% more to recreate in 2025 than it would have when the film was released in 2008
In June 2008, Mamma Mia and its star-studded cast took the world by storm, grossing $694.6 million at the box office worldwide. The feel-good flick saw daughter Sophie Sheridan invite her potential three fathers to her wedding on the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi which happened to be filmed on Skopelos. My Budget Break wanted to discover how much it would cost Sam, Bill and Harry to souper trouper their way to Villa Donna in Greece, and it can be revealed that Sam would be spending the most on his journey.
The research found that Sam Carmichael, played by Piers Brosnan, would have flown from New York to Skiathos as there aren’t flights to Skopelos, costing £426 in 2008. For Sam to recreate this in 2025, the average flight cost would be £674. Spoiler incoming, but Sam made this a one-way trip, so luckily for him, he wouldn’t have had a return flight cost. However, if you’re looking to make a return trip this summer, expect flights to cost around £1000 in 2025.
Even though Sam wouldn’t have had to pay his hotel costs, researchers at My Budget Break found that the average price of a hotel on the island of Skopelos would cost holidaymakers around £600 depending on the type of accommodation for one week in June, a 129% increase from £261 back in 2008.
For those wanting to recreate Sam’s trip to Greece this summer, it would cost 59% more in 2025 with grand total of over £1413.

Colin Firth’s character Harry Bright arrived in Greece from London, with return flights from London Heathrow to Skiathos costing around £212 back in 2008. Now? The average cost of these flights would be around £336. This trip, coupled with a one-week hotel stay, would cost around £749 in 2025, a 58% increase since 2008.
Finally, Stellan Skarsgård playing the eclectic Bill Anderson arrived in Greece by means of his private boat. Unfortunately, it’s unknown what Bill’s sailing route would have been, but the experts at My Budget Break estimate that arriving in Greece via yacht from the UK would cost several, if not tens of thousands of pounds in 2025.
Further research includes:
- If Baby wanted to have the time of her life in 2025, it would cost 1670% more than in 1963 to spend the summer at Kellerman’s
