Howden, the global insurance group, raised £3000 for Wales Ape Sanctury and Maggie’s Cancer Care charity at their golf day event on 28 May.

Hosted by its Cardiff and Swansea branches, Howden south Wales welcomed 100 guests to Machynys Golf Club in Llanelli to support the two local charities.

As a Principal Partner of the British & Irish Lions, Howden welcomed Gavin Hastings, Howden Lions Ambassador and former Scotland and Lions captain, who spoke on the legacy of representing the famous red jersey and gave insights into what to expect from the 2025 Qatar Airlines Lions Men’s Tour to Australia.

Adding to the lineup of guests was Adrian Davies, formerly Wales’ top professional squash player, who compered the event.

The event began with a breakfast and golf briefing before an 18-hole competition, followed by dinner, prize awarding, and a Q&A with Gavin.

Speaking on the event, Gary Stevens, Regional Managing Director at Howden, said: “What a fantastic day we had at our inaugural golf day. Thank you to everyone who supported our event whether through attendance or donations, and of course to Gavin and Adrian for leading the event and ensuring everyone was well looked after.

“It’s a great privilege to be able to give back to our local charities, and it was wonderful to see so many people supporting the work of both Maggie’s and Wales Ape Sanctuary. Maggie’s is a charity close to the hearts of a lot of us at Howden, doing incredible work in supporting people in both south Wales and nationally. We are additionally thrilled to be supporting the Wales Ape Sanctuary’s work in rescuing unwanted animals and those in need by giving them a loving home and specialist care.”

This is not the first time the Howden Wales team has supported Maggie’s Cancer Care charity. Earlier this year, 30 individuals from across Howden’s Corporate & Commercial pillar took part in a daring Wing Walking event and raised over £40,000, with Deborah Barber representing the south Wales team.
