Welsh Water’s Llandegfedd Lake in Monmouthshire is turning up the fun this summer with a wave of exciting outdoor adventures designed especially for children. From free water safety sessions to thrilling multi-activity days and open water splash fun, the lake is the ultimate destination for families looking to keep kids active, safe, and smiling throughout the school holidays.
This July and August, Llandegfedd Lake will host a trio of swimming opportunities: Swim Safe, Lake Legends, and Open Water Splash. Each activity is tailored to different age groups and interests, offering a mix of learning, adventure, and fun in the surroundings of one of South Wales’ most scenic reservoirs.
Swim Safe returns on selected dates in July (11th, 12th, 13th & 25th) with free, 45-minute sessions for children aged 7–14. Developed by Swim England and the RNLI, this nationally recognised programme teaches essential open water safety skills through fun, instructor-led activities. For those seeking a full day of adventure, Lake Legends activity days runs every Tuesday and Wednesday starting 22nd July , forages 8–15th. Whether your child is a seasoned explorer or a first-time paddler, they’ll love the mix of water and land-based activities – from kayaking, sailing, and jumbo paddleboarding to archery, orienteering, and laser clay shooting. Younger children and families can cool off with Open Water Splash sessions, running Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 20th July to 31st August .
