A group of 19 friends dressed up as traffic cones, walked from Pembrey to Llanelli via 25 pubs and raised £1,350 for the Breast Care Unit at Prince Philip Hospital.

Susan Partidge-Leach, who organised the sponsored walk, said: “We had a bus from the Coffee Pot in Llanelli to the first pub in Pembrey. I also had a whistle so along the way we could do the Floor is Lava song. When the whistle blew, no one was allowed to have their feet on the floor.

“We went from pub to pub walking and dancing and had lots of fun. We started at 11:30am on Sunday and ended at 1:30am on Monday.

“We decided to raise money for breast cancer and pancreatic cancer. Breast cancer because a good friend of ours, Viv Jones, has recently had breast cancer and

was treated at Prince Philip. And pancreatic cancer because I keep Llangennech Rugby Club and the amount of people in that area alone that have passed away of pancreatic cancer is unbelievable.

“I’d like to thank my friends Viv and Deb for their support throughout the day and everyone who donated. People even stopped their cars to donate. All of us were so touched by everyone and their generosity.”

Dr Anita Huws, Associate Specialist for Breast Care, said “On behalf of the team here in the Breast Care Unit at Prince Philip Hospital, we would like to thank Susan and all her family and friends for organising this fun walk whilst raising this wonderful donation. We are extremely grateful to you all.”

Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are very grateful for every donation we receive.”

Your donations are making a positive difference to the health, wellbeing and experience of NHS patients, service users and staff.
