Onshore wind developer Bute Energy has marked a key milestone for its Twyn Hywel Energy Park project with a construction launch event held on 26 June at Nelson RFC.

Twyn Hywel Energy Park, located 2km north-west of Caerphilly, is Bute Energy’s first project to enter construction. Once complete, the site will consist of up to 14 turbines and is expected to generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of around 81,000 homes each year.

The event brought together stakeholders, partners and members of the local community to hear more about the construction programme and the opportunities it will deliver for the region.

Attendees were given an overview of planned on-site activity in the months ahead, as the project progresses through its construction phase following planning approval by the Welsh Government Minister in November 2024.

The event also outlined Bute Energy’s approach to delivering jobs, skills, and community investment as part of the development. Representatives shared details of the company’s social value commitments and provided an update on the project’s Community Benefit Fund.

Guests had the opportunity to engage directly with the project team, ask questions, and discuss how local communities can continue to play a central role in shaping and benefiting from the energy park.

A total of £140,000 from the energy park’s community benefit fund will be released early to support
community priorities ahead of the project becoming operational. Once construction is complete, an
annual Community Benefit Fund of £704,000 will be available to the local community.

The development is also set to deliver significant economic benefits, including supporting hundreds of jobs during construction and creating long-term opportunities through local supply chains.

Community Investment and Communications Director Catryn Newton said:
“This event marks an important milestone as we celebrate the start of construction on our first energy park. Bringing people together at Nelson RFC has been a valuable way to ensure communities remain at the heart of everything we’re delivering.
“This event was an opportunity to share more detail on what happens next, but also to listen, and to make sure we continue working in partnership with local people to maximise the long term benefits of Twyn Hywel.”

Bute Energy has committed to ensuring that investment linked to the project supports local jobs, apprenticeships, and wider community priorities, alongside its contribution to Wales’ transition to clean, home-grown energy.
