Barchester Healthcare is proud to celebrate an incredible milestone as Senior General Manager Michelle Bowens marks 25 years of service within the company.

Michelle’s career is a great example of the opportunities available through dedication, hard work and Barchester’s commitment to supporting career progression. She joined the company at just 17 years old as a Kitchen Assistant, beginning a journey that would see her rise through almost every department before becoming one of Barchester’s Senior General Managers.

After starting in the kitchen, Michelle moved into housekeeping, where her commitment and work ethic quickly stood out. She was then encouraged to take on a care role. Although initially hesitant, that decision proved to be a defining moment in her career. Michelle discovered a passion for caring for others and steadily progressed through the ranks, becoming a Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy Manager and ultimately Senior General Manager.

Throughout her career, Michelle has embraced every opportunity to develop her skills. With the support of Barchester Healthcare, she completed her QCF Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5, demonstrating the organisation’s ongoing investment in developing its people and helping colleagues build rewarding, long-term careers.

Michelle’s leadership has delivered outstanding results at Llys Y Tywysog Care Home. Over the course of four years, she led the home’s Carehome.co.uk rating from an already impressive 9.2 to a perfect 10. Which is an exceptional achievement that reflects the dedication of the entire team and the outstanding quality of care provided.

Under Michelle’s guidance, Llys Y Tywysog has also been recognised as one of the UK’s Top 20 Care Homes and achieved the highest internal inspection rating across all Barchester Healthcare homes. The home also won the RoSPA health and safety award for 2026.

Reflecting on her journey, Michelle’s story demonstrates that with passion, perseverance and the right support, an entry-level role can become the foundation for an extraordinary career. As she celebrates 25 years with Barchester Healthcare, her achievements continue to inspire colleagues across the organisation and stand as a testament to the rewarding career opportunities available within the care sector.
