If you fancy going out in the autumn weather, or have a further interest in exercising, walking out in Carmarthen, then I have noted down a few great walkpaths with some very interesting history.

Burry Port & Gwendraeth Valley Railway
This is a mineral railway company that constructed a railway line throughout Carmarthenshire, opening in 1909, and closed by the Great Western Railway on the 19th of September, 1953. This railway is now abandoned and involves a 10 mile long walk where you can go all the way from Cwmmawr to Kidwelly, passing several villages, including Pontyberem, Ponthenri, Pontyates, Carway, leading into Kidwelly. The place can be a bit muddy, but you will experience 16 kilometers of very nice scenery, plenty of woodlands, lasting upwards of 3 and a half hours if you want to traverse the whole distance. You don’t have to go the whole distance, there are plenty of breaks in all of those villages either way.

Llyn llech Owain
Llyn Llech Owain Country Park is an 158 acre wide area of woods and lakeland near Cross Hands, with plenty of Adventure trails, including a wooden adventure playground, a family friendly and welcoming cafe, and a visitor centre. You will see some absolutely stunning wildlife views and plenty of amazing huts where you can go and do some bird watching.

Carmarthen Town Walk
This is a stunning walk starting at Carmarthen Castle, the walk goes through the town and the commercial area of the town. The walk will then go into Carmarthen’s Park, passing into The River Towy, going straight through Carmarthen Town, being one of Wales’s longest rivers, lasting 120km long. The path will turn back through the Morfa Wetlands to the town centre. You will pass the Roman amphitheater and the Cwm Oernant reservoirs. See stunning views, and amazing places all around Carmarthen.
