Instagram is known as a brilliant source of inspiration for people decorating their homes. In fact, a new wave of influencers have begun to break out into the digital space whose niche is “home inspiration”. Industry leader Mrs Hinch (@mrshinchhome) has 4.1 million followers!

However, with so many different styles, colours, and finishes to consider, the design amateur may feel quite overwhelmed with the choices presented to them. So, to help, Wren Kitchens has made things easier by creating the ultimate list of Instagram kitchen trends. Using hashtag research and considering Google search trends, below you’ll find the most popular kitchen design trends on Instagram right now.

The Colour: White

 

White comes out as the most popular kitchen colour on Instagram, with the hashtag “#whitekitchen” holding 617,537 posts. However, the tide does seem to be turning on this iconic classic with people choosing to use bolder colours in their kitchen.

Wren Kitchens design director, Darren Watts, commented on this future trend shift: “When designing their kitchens, people are choosing to go with a bolder palette more and more. For example, we’ve seen a particular trend toward shades of green. Green is a colour associated with nature and can be styled as hyper modern or classic. With 78,000 people using #greenkitchen to tag their photos, this colour has rose to prominence with celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Dakota Johnson and Cameron Diaz choosing it as a prominent colour in their kitchens.”

The Cabinets: Shaker Style

 

On Instagram, the hashtag “#shakerkitchen” has 84,974 posts and “#shakercabinets” has 81,355, showing that Instagram loves a classic simple kitchen cabinet.

The popularity of the Shaker style kitchen can be largely attributed to its versatility; they look great in a super modern kitchen, or in a classic farmhouse feel space.

Search trends also report that searches for “shaker style kitchen cabinets” have increased by 110% in the last year.

The Flooring: Wooden Herringbone

 

Search trends have seen an increase of 160% for the term “Herringbone floor” in the past year, with 83,000 posts on Instagram using the hashtag “#herringbonefloor”. This visually appealing design creates interest within the space and gives a farmhouse feel.

In terms of material, wood is very popular with 296,000 people posting under the hashtag “#woodflooring”. More specifically, Oak is the wood of choice having 73,400 posts sharing the hashtag “#oakflooring”.

The Worktops: Granite

 

On Instagram, under the hashtag “#graniteworktops” there are 22,700 posts. This worktop is ever popular and trendy due to its durability and price point. It lasts a long time, is easy to maintain and has a price tag significantly less to its visually similar counterpart, marble.

In terms of the colour of the granite, white, greys, and blacks reign supreme when you browse the Insta photos that share the granite hashtag.

The Layout: Galley Style

 

On Instagram, the most engaged with hashtag relating to kitchen layout is “#galleykitchen” with 19,600 posts. These kitchens comprise of two parallel work surfaces often in a smaller, thinner space.

Darren Watts also commented on why people with a galley kitchen are more likely to post to Instagram:

“The galley style kitchen is a popular layout in many people’s households and its shape brings with it design options that require creativity. For example, people enjoy sharing their smart storage solutions in a smaller kitchen, where a balance has to be found between practicality and style.”
