ENTRIES for next year’s Admiral Swansea Bay 10k are already open.

The 2016 race, taking place on Sunday September 18, will be the 36th of its kind.

Swansea Council will again be organising the event. Race entry fees are frozen at 2015 prices for anyone who enters before Monday November 2. Visit www.swanseabay10k.com to make the most of the early bird offer.

Over 4,000 runners took part in this year’s race just over a month ago. Record numbers of children also finished the 5k, 3k and 1k races held on the same afternoon.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “People not used to running normally take a few months to get in shape for the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k, but just imagine what sort of time you could set or how fit you could get with a year’s training under your belt?

“The event is one of the best of its kind in the UK because of the flat route set against the backdrop of stunning Swansea Bay. It gives professional athletes, hardcore runners, fun runners and charity fundraisers a great way to compete, set personal bests, conquer personal challenges or raise money.

“Starting your training now will also set you up for a good start to the New Year after the inevitable excesses of Christmas.”

The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k has been nominated as the best 10k race in the UK Running Awards. If you supported, participated in or watched the event, visit www.therunningawards.com/vote to cast your vote and help the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k win this prestigious award.

Other forthcoming events in Swansea Bay this autumn include Swansea’s Biggest Fireworks Display on Thursday November 5. The fun taking place at St Helen’s, organised by Swansea Council in partnership with The Wave and Swansea Sound, its official radio partners for the event, will include fireworks, walkabout entertainers and live music from Shane Filan and Jahméne Douglas.
