The Council is calling on residents in the Swansea, Dulais and Neath valleys to be vigilant following a report of a rogue trader targeting a flooded address in Rhyd Y Fro, Pontardawe.
The incident saw an elderly resident hand over £150 cash advance payment for drainage work at their property, with the individual falsely claiming that they were undertaking work on behalf of the Council.
Following the intervention of neighbours the money was handed back and the incident is now being investigated by the Police. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of fraud.
Council Leader Cllr Ali Thomas said: “I am sickened that people who may already be in great distress following severe weather or other unexpected events could be targeted by rogue traders. Neath Port Talbot Council workers will always carry official identification and will not demand money.”
“I would also like to commend residents for their critical actions and subsequent support for their neighbour.”
