Initial Reply and Donkey Punch
By Trudi Goldsmith
The Bank Holiday Saturday tends to be the quiet night  before the Bank holiday Sunday night out, however the Masons Arms in Llanelli drew in a fair crowd to watch two bands Initial Reply and Donkey Punch playing live.
Initial Reply
I reached the venue around 9.30pm when Initial Reply a four piece all girl band were playing their last song which was a really good cover of Gwen Steffani’s Hollaback Girl. As I missed the majority of the girls set I got some feedback from people who were in the pub watching the band.
Sara and Carol Gibbons said Initial Reply are very talented especially for their age and they are very sophisticated. They played some cover songs including a great cover of a Paramore song and also three of their own original songs.
Kaz Stevens said ‘Initial Reply were really good and the girls are extremely talented’.

Donkey Punch
This 5 piece band consisting of four men and one woman have been around in various forms since 2007. Donkey Punch describe themselves on their facebook page with good humour as sleaze rock and as the best band called Donkey Punch in Llanelli.
The band entertained the crowd with their dual male and female front singers whose voices stood alone during different songs but blended together melodically really well on other songs. Donkey Punch played a really great entertaining set with a mix of covers including a B52’s song,  Greenday,Weezer and Feeder to name but a few, mixed in with their own original songs including a song named Sunflower Seeds. Very entertaining and definitely worth watching live.
I asked some people in the pub what they thought of the band’s performance……..
Nick Kirkham said the band was ‘slamming’ and his friend
Khan Pring said they were ‘banging’ and ‘really cool’
Carl Jones said ‘Donkey Punch were brilliant and the pub was bouncing but I like it better when the band play their own original songs not covers’.
Kaz Stevens said ‘it was nice to have some of the original members of Donkey Punch back in the band again.
Richard Grinter a friend of the band said ‘ it was the best they have ever played’
