The popular BBC One antiques programme Flog It!, presented by Paul Martin, is coming to Margam Country Park on Tuesday 1st July 2015.
The BBC antiques show is now on its 14th series and regularly achieves an audience of over 2 million viewers in its weekday afternoon slot.
Margam Park will be hosting the Flog It!valuation day within the landscaped grounds of the historical 18th Century Orangery. Rather like a treasure hunt, members of the public are invited to bring along up to three antiques and collectables that they might be interested in selling. Valuations will take place from 9.30am until 4pm.
Once valued, the owner and a team of experts decide whether an object should go forward for auction. If an item is chosen, it will be included in a sale a few weeks later at an auction house in Cardiff. The hope is that when the auctioneer’s hammer falls the owners will receive a great price for their items.
Everyone who goes along to the valuation day will get a free estimate from the experts on what their items might be worth, regardless of whether or not they are chosen to go for auction.
Since it started the show has made a number of significant finds. These include a rare Aboriginal Broad Shield that had been hidden away in a Flog It! viewer’s wardrobe and went on to sell for £30,000. The series also uncovered an unusual Royal Doulton Spook figurine in Blackpool which had been bought at a car boot sale for £2 and fetched £5000 at auction.
Cllr. Ali Thomas, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome such a high profile show as Flog It! to the area. As well as being an interesting day out for all attending, the show’s popularity will provide an excellent way to showcase the superb surroundings of Margam Country Park”.
“I am sure that the people of Neath Port Talbot and the surrounding areas will give the experts and crew a very warm welcome”.
Paul Martin, Presenter of Flog It! said: “We always enjoy going to Wales and I speak for the entire Flog It! team when I say that we are really pleased to be bringing the show to Margam Country Park. The park with its historic castle, Citrus House and of course the 18th Century Orangery will provide the perfect setting for us to film”.
“If you’ve ever wondered how much your boot sale bargains or clutter in the loft might be worth, now is your chance to find out, we’d be delighted to see you”.
