Trading Standards teams in Neath Port Talbot and Swansea have arranged training seminars for local food businesses to ensure they comply with new food safety legislation.
To ensure that local businesses are not caught out by the new regulation, the two training seminars were delivered by a representative from the Food Standards Agency.
Businesses attending the seminar were given advice on how to comply with the new legislation and were made aware of a number of instances where members of the public have been seriously injured as a result of allergens being incorrectly identified or not declared at all.
Neath Port Talbot Council Leader, Cllr Ali Thomas OBE said: “This is an important piece of legislation that aims to protect those people unfortunate enough to suffer with food allergies. I am pleased to see that so many of our food businesses have taken up the training to ensure that their customers are safe eating their products.
“Our Trading Standards team will continue to work hard to safeguard the public and support our businesses in achieving the highest possible safety standards.”
The Food Information for Consumers Regulation covers businesses such as pubs, restaurants, cafes, and takeaways, as well as requiring producers to clearly display allergens on the list of ingredients.
