AN OPEN fun day is being held on the weekend to help raise more money for a little Swansea girl who’s been diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The event, taking place at Clase Community Centre on Long View Road on Saturday September 12, will raise money for eight-year-old Rhianna Chellew and her family.
Rhianna, from Manselton, is soon due to receive radiotherapy treatment at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff. It’s then hoped she’ll take part in clinical trials in Bristol.
Saturday’s event, which starts at noon, has been organised by Wales Karate-Do Wadokai. It will include bouncy castle fun, superhero characters, face painting and arts and crafts. There’ll also be stalls, displays and a raffle.
Ralph Lewis, from Swansea Council’s community buildings team, said: “This will be a fantastic open day for people of all ages that will raise money for a very worthy cause. Our community buildings are ideal for events of this nature because they’re located in the heart of communities across Swansea. I’d urge as many people as possible to go along on the day and help raise money that will be invaluable for Rhianna and her family throughout her forthcoming treatment.”
All money raised will initially go towards supporting Rhianna and her family to travel back and forth to Cardiff and Bristol. It will also help support her parents while they’re off work caring for her and help cover anything that may be needed during her treatment.
A fundraising drive that started earlier this year has already seen more than £30,000 collected. Events have included a concert at The Vault and an auction at the Swansea Dockers Club.
