What now for e-cigarettes?

VapersCom and Business+ helping you navigate

The uncertainty within the e-cigarette industry has been palpable ever since the German government decided to revamp tobacco duty. The vapers community fair VapersCom and Business+ aim to provide guidance and offer all participants a platform for exchanging information.

Dortmund, 8 September 2021 – Under the planned duty regulations, nicotine-free liquids will be taxed in the same way as liquids containing nicotine. The levels of incremental duty hikes through to 2026 are already known. However, it is striking that the planned levy is significantly higher than the European average. A look at other countries should actually show what can happen if duty levels go over the top.

In Italy, a tax on e-cigarettes was introduced in 2014, causing the number of consumers to drop by 70% and forcing around 75% of specialist retailers to close. In the years that followed, the black market for e-cigarette products boomed. Then in 2018, the Italian government was forced to pare the duty back by 90% to counter these undesirable effects.

VapersCom and VapersCom Business+ … the ideal platform

So while the industry is now slowly preparing for this major financial and logistical challenge, it is obvious that there is still considerable need for clarification on numerous detailed questions concerning practical implementation. For the first time, manufacturers, importers and wholesalers are having to deal with issues such as duty-paid stickers and duty warehouses. Understandably, this gives rise to many unanswered questions.

Helping address these will be VapersCom – to be held on 6 and 7 November 2021 in the exhibitions halls at Messe Dortmund – and the new ‘onside-platform’ VapersCom Business+, offering a superb platform for exchanging information. Here, retailers, wholesalers, importers and manufacturers will be able to discuss many of the unanswered questions and look for joint answers to them.

Of course, this year’s VapersCom will also feature a hygiene masterplan, enabling all players to join in and engage. “Messe Dortmund meets all the relevant requirements for holding trade fairs safely in times of COVID. Our facility-related hygiene masterplan is used at all events at Messe Dortmund and has been approved by the responsible health authority. It implements the necessary measures uncompromisingly and, in our view, offers a very high level of safety. Admission to VapersCom will be strictly for those who have been vaccinated or have tested negative. As you can see, safety is our top priority when it comes to ensuring that employees, service providers, customers and visitors stay safe on our premises,” said Robin Uhlenbruch, Press Spokesman for Messe Dortmund.
