Dear Editor,
Regarding UK wind energy, I’m amazed that no-one pays attention to the unarguable scientific proof that is crystal clear on the 2024 UK wind energy graph found on Gridwatch.co.uk. That graph PROVES that UK Net Zero is impossible, because wind and solar energy can never, ever power the UK, especially if we are to have 30 million Electric vehicles [EVs] after 2030 !! It is all cloud-cuckoo land!! Do the maths , please !
The maximum UK electricity usage[ at one time] in 2024 was 47000MW….in a MILD winter! Now the total UK battery storage capacity in 2025 is “8000 MW, which corresponds to 8300MWhours” according to Apatura on Google.
Therefore, on a winter’s day, with the UK demand at 47000MW, we would use 47000MWhours…….in ONE HOUR!! So it follows that our COMPLETE CURRENT UK BATTERY STORAGE of 8300 MWhours, would be used up in only ELEVEN MINUTES!!
Now, in this “post-fossil fuel” energy world….. backed by a myriad blinkered, innumerate politicians……there would be no other energy in the National Grid apart from that provided by their favoured renewables.
So, on a windless cloudy or wet winter’s day…..there would be no electricity entering the National Grid apart from what is ALREADY stored in the UK BESS battery storage system. UK Solar panels would be generating NIL…… [not only zilch from the sun in winter day-time under cloudy or wet skies….but it is also dark for 17 hours of 24 !!] and thousands of gigantic, ugly wind turbines would all be on stop under windless conditions.
So we are back to reliance on our BESS batteries!! If our total UK storage of 8300MWh only supplies the UK for 11 minutes of ONE winter’s day ………how do greenies propose to power the UK for the whole of the rest of the winter??
Of course, this is all without the 30 to 40 million electric vehicles[EVs] proposed after 2030 !! 30 million small EVs alone would require 150,000MW to be available in the National Grid. So where is all that electricity coming from on cold, calm days??
There’s a greater chance of seeing pigs flying overhead and cows jumping over the moon than there is of renewables powering the UK and …….. blessed BESS battery storage backing it all up!!
For goodness sake , please peruse the simple graphs of Gridwatch.co.uk.
Heaven help us the next time we have a HARD winter!!! Hypothermia will abound !! Whatever happened to basic UK education??
Yours faithfully,
Lyn Jenkins,
