Award-winning filmmaker and environmental storyteller Daniel Greenway is releasing his first book, Awakening from the Matrix: A Journey Beyond Illusion and Control, a thought-provoking exploration of how modern life subtly manipulates perception and how individuals can rediscover the freedom to think and feel for themselves.
Best known for his sustainability-driven short film Deep Fried Fingers, Greenway brings his creative insight and passion for truth into this debut work, blending personal experience with cultural observation. Living in Llanelli, Wales, Greenway says the idea for the book grew out of deep concern for the direction humanity is heading.
“I wrote this book because I can see how deeply people are being brainwashed every day, by media, politics, technology, and systems that feed on fear and distraction,” Greenway explains. “It’s everywhere now, shaping how people think, feel, and vote without them even realising it. I started to feel like humanity was losing touch with its own mind, its own soul. Writing Awakening from the Matrix was my way of fighting back, not with anger, but with awareness.”
In the book, Greenway shares his own awakening journey, revealing how fear, division, and conditioning create a kind of mental “matrix” that keeps people from realising their true potential. He encourages readers to see beyond surface-level narratives and reconnect with consciousness itself. “This isn’t a book about conspiracy or politics,” he says. “It’s about liberation about remembering what’s real.”
Greenway believes the world is ready for this message now more than ever. “We’re reaching a breaking point,” he says. “The manipulation is becoming so obvious that even people who used to ignore it are starting to question what’s real. People are waking up in waves, but many don’t yet have the tools to navigate that awakening. This book arrives at a time when truth is needed more than ever.”
At its core, Awakening from the Matrix is a call to consciousness. Greenway doesn’t seek to persuade, but to inspire. “My goal isn’t to force anyone to believe what I believe,” he says. “It’s to shake something awake inside people, to get them to question, to look deeper, to start thinking for themselves again. If the book can wake even a few people up from the trance, to see the world with clearer eyes and act from truth instead of fear, then that’s enough for me.”
