On Saturday 26th September over 8000 people attended a march organised by Yes Cymru to call for independence in conjunction with All Under One Banner this was the 11th event to take place with the organisers.
Previous marches to take place include the first in Cardiff, Caernarfon, Merthyr Tydfil, these were held in 2019, there were marches due to take place in 2020 but these ended up being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 2022 saw marches held in Wrexham and for a second time in Cardiff with nearly 10,000 people in attendance, events in Swansea and Bangor took place in 2023, 2024 Carmarthen, whilst Barry and Rhyl were the locations for the 2025 marches.
Those who spoke at the event included Plaid Cymru’s first minister Rhun Ap Iorwerth, Elwyn Vaughan Plaid Cymru MS, social media influencers Bethany Davies and Cerys Huthin, there was also speeches from Hywel Griffiths Yes Cymru’s Rob Hughes and Sion Jobbins from Radio Yes Cymru.
Well known supporters for Yes Cymru include Michael Sheen, Neville Southall, Angharad Mair, Gruff Rhys and Cian Ciaran from the band Super Furry Animals, Charlotte Church, the late Eddie Butler, Matthew Rhys, Julian Lewis Jones and Mike Bubbins.
Yes Cymru was in summer 2024, but was officially launched on 20th February 2016, it is a non political which welcomes members from all political parties that believe in independence.
Recently on 14th September 2026, Welsh first minister Rhun Ap Iorweth, met with leaders of the SNP and Sinn Fein in Cardiff to sign a joint memorandum affirming the right of Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland already determine their futures.
Current polling for independence in a recent survey published on 11th September 2026 shows 32% of likely voters would vote yes if a referendum was held tomorrow, the breakdown of support is as following 18-24 year olds 59%, 25-34 year olds 54% 35-44 year olds 57%.
