LISBON LION VISITS LLANELLI
Â
With Celtic Football Club in South Wales to play Swansea City in a pre season friendly, a member of the ir famous European Cup winning side of 1967, JOHN CLARKE, paid a visit to Llanelli AFC’s Stebonheath Park ground and in particular, The Jock Stein Lounge.
Â
Jock Stein played for the Reds in the early 1950’s spending fifteen months in Llanelli. He eventually left to join Celtic in 1952 but is still fondly remembered by the older generation of Reds supporters as a swashbuckling centre half!
The Jock Stein Lounge was named after the Celtic legend and the club have been trying to secure a game against the Scottish giants to commemorate the Jock Stein connection but as yet have been unable to arrange a suitable date.
Jock Stein was the manager of the Celtic team that beat Inter Milan 2 1 in the 1967 final and John Clarke spoke glowingly about his former boss saying that “He was truly an inspirational man and a great tactician of the game”.
