The Odeon to return to town
74 years after it first showed a film in the town, the Odeon Cinema is set to return.Â
Â
Odeon and UCI Cinemas Group have reached a deal to acquire the forthcoming Eastern Gateway site from Reel Cinemas, which had been preparing to open a new six-screen cinema as part of major developments already under way.
Subject to Office of Fair Trading (OFT) approval of the deal, the Odeon is expected to open its doors in October next year. Council regeneration executive member, Councillor Clive Scourfield, said: “Odeon is a strong brand which will bring even more attention to it, and help increase footfall. “And, on a nostalgic note, it will be great to see the Odeon back in Llanelli.”
The original Odeon cinema opened on June 18, 1938, in what is now Theatr Elli, showing Paradise For Two.
