Assembly Member Joyce Watson has met Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups to discuss discrimination and diversity in Wales.
In the wake of the Windrush scandal, the Mid and West Wales AM met representatives of the African Caribbean Elders Society to hear how Welsh residents have been affected – and to discuss plans for this year’s Black History month. She later met young people from the National BAME Youth Forum groups to talk about issues including access to work and training.
Joyce said:
“I was delighted to meet the youth and elders BAME groups – thanks to Race Council Cymru for organising the visits.
“In this 70th anniversary year of the Windrush arrival, it is a great time to celebrate the enormous contribution to national life of all our BAME communities, and to rededicate ourselves to ending discrimination in all its forms.”
Mrs Watson is a member of the Assembly Commission, the corporate body for the Welsh Assembly, with responsibility for equalities. In October she will team up with Race Council Cymru to promote Black History month events.
