The family of Rhys Calthorpe, who sadly passed away at 14 years old, took part in the Saundersfoot 2025 New Year’s Day swim in his memory and raised £750 for the Wish Fund.
The Wish Fund is a campaign delivered by Hywel Dda Health Charities which creates lasting memories for children and young people with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions and their families.

Rhys sadly passed away on 17th July 2023 due to Relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Rhys passed peacefully at his grandparents’ home, where he wished to stay, with his family around him.
Mr. Morris, Rhys’ Grandfather, said: “On New Year’s Day, myself, Rhys’ Mamgu, Mum and Sister, all took part in the New Year’s Day Swim at Saundersfoot beach.

“We wanted to do something in memory of our Rhys. We also wanted to raise money to say thank you and give back for the amazing care Rhys received. We chose the Wish Fund as they do amazing work for families like ours.
“Thank you to everyone who sponsored us. In-memory of Rhys William Calthorpe – Son, Brother, Grandson.”
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We want to say a heartfelt thank you to Rhys’ family for their generous fundraising, it will make a big difference to patients cared for by the Paediatric Palliative Care service.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
