Dyfed-Powys Police are proudly supporting International Control Room week (October 26- November 3).
A weeklong worldwide campaign that shines the spotlight on the invaluable work of control room teams starts today.
Often the first point of contact for our communities, our Force Control Room answers hundreds of calls a day and countless digital contacts.
The Force Communications Centre is always available; open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Answering incoming 999 and 101 calls within seconds, the teams work together to efficiently dispatch local units and specialist resources in response incidents across such a huge geographical area.
Head of the Force Communications Centre, Peter Roderick said:
“Our everyday heroes, ‘FCC Operators’, are ordinary people doing an extraordinary job.”
“I am so proud of the skilled and dedicated staff who work so extremely hard in making sure that each call is answered promptly, so that, when necessary, we can deploy resources in a timely manner to those incidents needing a police presence.
“Their skill, ability and resilience shown each day in serving the public, covering all hours of the day is truly amazing”.
“Our control room is a hive of activity; whether it’s taking a report of a life-threatening emergency, coordinating staff to locate a missing person, or a general enquiry, our staff handle every call with precision, professionalism, no two days are the same.
Chief Superintendent Jolene Mann, with overall strategic policing command of the Force Control Room, said:
“I am very proud of what they do and what they achieve day in day out. Their resolve in handling such diverse calls, and the speed of their operation and response.
“The Force Communication Centre is often the unseen side of policing, though they are often the first person the public speak to when they’re in an emergency”
“I am so pleased that this week affords them the opportunity for the public recognition, which they rightly deserve”.
Mr Roderick went onto describe the remarkable achievements the Force Control Room has delivered:
“Through the dedication of all our staff, in the last 12 months Dyfed-Powys Police have been one of the top performing Police Control Rooms in the country, sustaining this month after month.
“Proudly, I am able to say that our Force Control Room has consistently held a top performing position amongst the 44 Police Forces, with this being for its effective response to the public, achieved through its 999 and 101 answer times and the high standard of quality service it has delivered.
“Independently assessed and confirmed by the recent HMICFRS inspection – this verified our FCC’s top performing status, recognising the quality assurance measures that were in place, with this sustaining the high standard achieved. His Majesty’s independent Inspection Team also acknowledged this as being best and innovative practice for other Police Forces to emulate.
“The team here in Dyfed-Powys deserve all the praise for this accolade and the dedication shown to their demanding job is outstanding.”
A unique and challenging role, it is not to be underestimated the impact and importance our FCC Operators make, they are our “everyday heroes in headsets”.
