On a very wet and windy Friday, 13th February 2015, Lord Kinnock , former leader of the Labour Party did us the honour of unveiling a Blue Plaque on the wall outside the old Bryntirion Workhouse and Infirmary.

The blue plaque was erected in memory of the many residents of Llanelli whose only refuge it was in times of illness and penury.

Lord Kinnock told us that two of his own antecedents had been in the workhouse in other parts of Wales, and said how glad he was that those days were past.

After the unveiling, members of Llanelli Community Heritage, local councillors and a representative of Charles Church Homes who had sponsored the plaque, were welcomed by Carl Bates, landlord of the Star public house for tea and buns. Thank you very much, Carl.
