Experts reveal how to create a five-star hotel bed experience at home

Tired homeowners are being advised on how to improve their sleep by getting a luxury hotel experience in their own bedrooms.

Mattress specialists from WinstonsBeds.com have shared industry secrets to help people create an at-home retreat.

A great hotel room offers an inviting and comfortable space set up to provide the best possible night’s sleep, so recreating this should provide homeowners with the same feeling.

All of the elements to make up the perfect night sleep are possible without needing to travel to the world’s best hotels, according to the experts.

Families can achieve five star luxury with a top-quality mattress, comfortable bedding and a peaceful environment.

Rebecca Swain, a mattress expert at WinstonsBeds.com said: “Although a hotel stay can be an exciting part of all travels, you could create your very own five star retreat without needing to leave your home.

“Of course, it all starts with your mattress. You could have the comfiest bedding in the world but it won’t make a difference if you are sleeping on an old, uncomfortable mattress that doesn’t suit your needs.

“You may need to invest in a new mattress in order to really make a difference to your sleep and achieve that five-star sleep. It is generally known that mattresses should be changed every eight years, but there are other signs you might need to swap out your mattress, including creaky springs or waking up with aches and pains.

“Your bedding is also essential and is an important part of what makes hotel beds feel as comfortable as possible. Keeping your bedding clean, fresh and opting for larger oversized duvets and pillows can help create the zen space you are looking for.”

Here are ways to create a hotel-like bed at home, from WinstonsBeds.com

  1. Consider a new mattress

A good night’s sleep and that luxurious hotel-like feeling all starts with a good quality mattress. If your mattress is showing signs of wear and tear, it might be time to replace it. In a quality mattress, springs should never be noisy or creaky. If you find your mattress begins to make noises as you move on it then it’s likely that its internal structure is weakening. Waking up with headaches could also be a sign you need a new mattress, as the pain could be caused by poor alignment and support during your sleep.

  1. Cleaning your mattress

Ditch stubborn mattress stains by making an at-home cleaner from cupboard essentials. Use a quarter of a cup of white vinegar with three parts distilled water and mix to create an effective cleaning solution. Don’t make the surface too wet otherwise, it can cause internal dampness. Hot water with a dash of washing up liquid can also make the difference on pesky stains.

  1. Look after your bedding

Change your bedding once per week and iron them as soon as they are dry to mimic the crisp, fresh feeling of hotel bedding. Avoid ironing when the sheets are on your bed as the heat could affect your mattress. Hotels often choose white bedding as it gives a fresh and clean look and feel to a bedroom.

  1. Oversized duvets

What really helps hotels create that ultra-luxurious look is having large, fluffy duvets. We would recommend a 13.5 tog duvet to achieve the look and feel of oversized bedding, accompanied by extra-large feather or down pillows.

  1. Tuck your corners

When making your bed, consider creating an extra neat look by tucking in the corners of your duvet. Not only does this help the aesthetics of your bedroom, but can also help your bedding to stay crease free and look fresher for longer.
